The Creative Spirit of Rachael Pace

The Meadows has rentable artist studios, and we really, really love them. We believe the creativity, community, and authenticity that comes from having artists actively using studio space is a vital part of what makes a place like this feel alive.

So when we partnered with the Northern Lakes Arts Association’s Creative Spirit of the North annual award, we were thrilled. Artists apply for the award, and among a series of honors and responsibilities, the recipient receives a studio space at The Meadows for one year as part of the experience.

In 2025, Rachael Pace was named the Creative Spirit Award winner, and we were honored to have her working out of a studio at our little shop. Rachael spent a lot of time in her studio and brought so much joy, curiosity, and originality into the space. If you’ve ever visited The Meadows, chances are you’ve seen her work. She has lino-cut prints, reduction prints, and digital pieces throughout the shop—including framed originals, prints, t-shirts, stickers, and more.

One of my personal favorites is Rachael’s Garden Grumman design, which she offers on totes, stickers, and t-shirts. One of my favorite moments, though, was spotting a stranger—clearly a visitor to Ely—wearing that shirt at a restaurant. I love the idea of someone visiting a place, wanting a souvenir, and choosing a shirt designed by a local artist—something thoughtful, beautiful, and so deeply reflective of this area. That kind of connection feels pretty special.

Rachael’s work was also highlighted beautifully in an article by NLAA—click here to read more about her journey:

While Rachael’s time in the studio has come to an end, her work at The Meadows is timeless and will always have a home here. Stop by the shop and see for yourself.
