Nan Onkka
Grand Marais, Minnesota
Printmaker, Woodcut Prints
Nan Onkka is a printmaking artist who lives on Minnesota's north shore of Lake Superior. She creates woodcut prints inspired by the lakes and woods near her home. Nan lives in Grand Marais, MN with her husband and two young kids. Her natural surroundings provide the primary inspiration for her woodcut prints. She is particularly fascinated by color, pattern, and the changes seen through each season. She is drawn to the process of reductive printmaking for the challenge it present - creating a multicolor image from a single wood block. Each print allows her to exercise her brain through the subtractive process and the backwards thinking! Beyond art, Nan enjoys camping, traveling, and her new knitting hobby.
